The QR Sports and Sedans fraternity return to the track, after a four-month Summer break, when their five-round 2018 championship commences, as part of the Lakeside Tribute, at Lakeside Park this weekend.

Only one of our 2017 champions will be contesting the series again this year, with QR Sports champion Shannon Cane moving to the Queensland Touring Car Championship for this season.

Ken Fazakerley comes into the 2018 season as the defending champion in the QR Sports class, after he capitalized on the misfortunes of Steve Hay in the penultimate round of the season.

Hay has confirmed he’ll return to the QR Sports and Sedans field this season, as well as the Queensland Touring Car Championship, hopeful of a better run in the reliability stakes, in order to be a championship contender.

Racing alongside the QR Sports and Sedans category again in 2018 will be the Production Ute Racing Queensland series, formerly known as the Tradie Utes.

The Lakeside Tribute will be the opening round of an expanded calendar for the series, which will see them race alongside QR Sports and Sedans, and also the Queensland Production Car Series at various times across the eight-month long season.

John McLaughlin enters season 2018 as the defending champion in that category, and is a short favourite to go back-to-back.

Across this multi-class field, no less than six different manufacturers are represented, with trackside spectators treated to the traditional Ford versus Holden battle, thanks to the Utes field.

Last time the series visited Lakeside Park, for the 2017 championship finale, diabolical weather caused chaos on the Saturday, before Steve Hay won three of the four Sunday races.

A mix of new faces, and old regulars will contest the four championship races this weekend, in the series’ first of two outings at Lakeside Park in 2018.

From here, the series will venture to Queensland Raceway for Rounds 2, 3 and 4, before returning to this iconic 2.41km venue in November, when, once again, the champions will be crowned.
