HQ Battle Continues in Ipswich.
For the first time in 2018, Queensland’s HQ Holden Championship will hit Queensland Raceway, when Round 3 of the series takes place this weekend, as part of Round 2 of the Queensland Racing Drivers Championship.
Four weeks ago, Scott Andriske won a thrilling round at Lakeside Park, but was deprived of a clean-sweep, when Brandon Madden claimed the fourth and final race of the weekend.
The main protagonists were evenly matched, to the point where we saw six or seven cars competing for the podium positions at any given time, and given the nature of this weekend’s venue, Queensland Raceway, it’s likely that’ll we’ll see similarly tight, intense and even racing again in Round 3.
Tim Boyle and Brad Schomberg spent the entire weekend fighting for the minor placings, on a weekend where Bruce French wasn’t as competitive as he had been in previous visits to the Queensland Raceways venues.
Ben Simpson and Kyle Lovering were also right in the mix for much of the weekend at Lakeside, while the 2016 champion, Brock Mitchell, was off the pace, for his standards, and will head to Ipswich looking for a stronger result.
Joseph Andriske returns to the grid, and will be hopeful that some of Scott’s success rubs off on him across the weekend.
Scott has been the man to beat across the opening two rounds, but when the series last visited Queensland Raceway, in October, Bruce French claimed top honours. Andriske holds a slender lead in the championship, ahead of Tim Boyle.
Those two enjoy a comfortable buffer over the chasing pack of Madden, Schomberg and Kyle Lovering.
Seventeen cars will grid up for the four-race program, Round 3 of the Queensland HQ Championship, and the weekend starts with the all important qualifying session on Saturday morning.
